Martin Luther King, Jr., Day is a federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King and improve their communities. Dr. King lived his life serving others. “Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.” Following his example, millions of Americans serve on Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. At our local churches, children’s schools, at a local shelter, or lending a hand to help our neighbors – we bring to life his vision of neighbors working together to build a better future.
We invite you to participate in any or all of the MLK Day opportunities to worship, fellowship, and serve.
Martin Luther King, Jr. was deeply committed to serving others and helping foster a more just society. Every year, thousands of people across the United States come together to honor Dr. King through service projects, scholarship opportunities, and worship services. High Point University and the surrounding community are growing their partnership to make MLK Day a day ON rather than a day OFF.
The SEDLO invite you to participate in the MLK Day opportunities to worship, fellowship, and serve. I encourage you to select an opportunity that speaks to you to serve alongside your Second District peers, presiding elders and bishop, together, let's roll up our sleeves, spread kindness and make a real difference in the lives of others. Your participation helps live out Dr. King's dream and showcases the spirit of service that defines our SEDLO.
This is more than a day off—it’s a day to come together, take action, and leave a lasting impact in our community. Together, we can make this MLK Day unforgettable—filled with purpose, action, and heart.
Thank you for your willingness to serve!
Love, Hope and Peace
